Major Contract Won In Japan By Tyrone Manufacturer
Tyrone manufacturer of screening and recycling machinery, McCloskey International, has won a substantial order from Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi of Tokyo, the leading Japanese equipment manufacturing and distribution business.
McCloskey, based in Coalisland, is to supply Kompaq machines to Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi for use in the recycling of construction rubble, top soil and other waste materials. The tracked and remote controlled machine was specifically developed for operation in confined spaces with help from Invest Northern Ireland’s Compete scheme that helps bring R&D projects to market.
The order was confirmed last week in Coalisland by Mr Masayuki Itoh, Vice Manager of Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi’s Market Business Department. It was welcomed by Kevin McCann, Invest NI’s Transport, Construction and Tourism Director.
A spokesman for McCloskey said: “This is a very exciting and important deal for us with one of Asia’s most successful and prestigious machinery manufacturers. Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi’s decision to include our machine in its portfolio represents an extremely significant endorsement of our commitment to innovation and outstanding product quality and functionality.”
“The support we received from Invest NI’s Compete programme in the development of this product was invaluable. It enabled us to turn the project into a product and bring it to market faster than we would otherwise have been able to do had we been dependent on our own resources,” he added.
Mr Itoh said: “We were attracted to the McCloskey Kompaq machine because it is unique; there is nothing currently in the market with the same features and functions. Our trials with the McCloskey machine demonstrated that it will be a perfect fit for operating conditions in Japan and will enable our customers to meet new environmental measures that require the recycling of building waste and top soil. We were impressed by its versatility and the quality of its construction.”
Mr McCann said: “This is an important breakthrough for McCloskey in one of the most quality conscious and demanding markets for machinery. It is an excellent example of how local companies can use Invest NI programmes to achieve international success. The company has benefited from the Business Health Check Process, our situational analysis and benchmarking tool, and programmes such as Compete, which helps companies to develop innovative products. It has also used the Invest NI Trade programme to bring its products quickly to market.”
This order followed a year-long evaluation of the unit by the Japanese company’s technicians. Contact with this company was made at a major construction machinery exhibition in Las Vegas. Following a visit to Sagami for further discussions, Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi managers visited the production plant in Coalisland to assess the operation. The visit was also used to meet existing customers and view the Kompaq operating in the field.
The machines will be marketed through Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi’s strong dealer network. The company also intends to utilise a substantial number within its rental business.
