Mallusk company invests over £3million to grow business
Williams Industrial Services (WIS) Ltd has invested £3.3million to develop new products and increase its focus on export markets.
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster made the announcement, supported by Invest Northern Ireland at the company’s base in Mallusk, today.
WIS is Northern Ireland’s largest provider of process control and environmental engineering solutions. It operates across a wide range of industry sectors from aerospace to water and waste water treatment.
This investment will help the company develop new products and services, increase its turnover to £30million over the next two years and promote 24 new high quality jobs, as it further develops its research and development (R&D) capability and increases its sales in markets outside Northern Ireland.
Announcing the investment, Arlene Foster said: “WIS has grown remarkably over the past 25 years and such companies are the backbone of the Northern Ireland economy.
“This investment, supported by Invest NI, is a strong indication of the commitment of this indigenous company to further expand by diversifying into higher value-added products and services, and capitalising on lucrative export opportunities. The increased focus on competing internationally can help WIS become more profitable and reach its full commercial potential.
“By investing in a new export development team, the company will broaden the range of skills within the business and implement a wide-range of activities to improve its export marketing capability.
“As WIS moves into more diverse external markets, it will be crucial that it continues to harnesses a culture of innovation in order to compete with its foreign counterparts. Its dedication to ongoing product and process improvement is demonstrated by the development of a new scientific R&D function as part of this project.”
Robert Adamson, Joint-Managing Director of WIS, said: “Our growth strategy over the next two years includes a variety of promotional activities such as exhibitions in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland. We will also be publicising our work extensively in trade media, developing a new range of advertising literature and welcoming potential new clients to Northern Ireland to witness the high quality of projects and systems already delivered by us.
“This aggressive marketing campaign will be essential in order to further establish our presence in developing markets,” continued Mr Adamson.
John Toner, Joint-Managing Director of WIS, added: “The new highly-skilled positions, with commensurate salaries, will be essential to the success of WIS as we implement this project over the next two years. New senior management level positions, as well as support personnel, will be integral parts of our growth initiative.
“The planned implementation of a scientific R&D function will enable us to explore new technologies, analyse innovative treatment processes and test prototype solutions that could have vast commercial potential.”
This project is the culmination of several months of collaboration between Invest NI and WIS. Invest NI has previously helped Williams with company development initiatives including staff training and strategic planning.
