Mivan Signs £2M Contract on Invest NI Trade Mission

Mivan, the Antrim-based specialist construction company, has signed a £2 million contract to help build houses in Bangkok for the government of Thailand during the recent Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to South East Asia.

The new contract was announced by Mervyn McCall, a director of Mivan and leader of the Invest NI mission to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Mivan (Thailand) will build low cost houses in the first phase of Ua Athorn project, a programme being developed by the National Housing Authority of Thailand in Bangkok’s sprawling Min Buri district.

The housing project is a central feature of a major investment by the Thai government to improve the living conditions in a capital city which is home to over six million people.

Mr McCall said Mivan (Thailand) would use the Northern Ireland company’s aluminium formwork technology to build 3,000 houses over the next two years.

Said Mr McCall: “Our formwork system is a proven solution for the construction of a very large number of housing units over a relatively short period. We’ve been working in Thailand for over 10 years and have a strong track record in housing developments.

“I was delighted when Invest NI invited me to lead the mission and to be able to offer other participating companies advice and experience on doing business in this fast developing marketplace.

“We’ve used trade missions, over many years, to help us to identify opportunities and to establish our position in many global markets. I was greatly impressed by the enthusiasm and determination to win business demonstrated by other companies on the mission and the highly professional support provided by Invest NI’s Trade team.

“The camaraderie and cooperation among mission members was tremendous. Missions are a great way for a company wishing to break into exporting to explore a new marketplace, ” he added.

Welcoming Mivan’s latest success, Alan Hingston, Invest NI’s director of Trade, said: “This is very good news for Mivan and a marvellous boost for our drive to encourage many more companies to grasp the opportunities provided by our mission programme to achieve faster and profitable growth by pursuing business in the international marketplace.”
