Modern Democracy Assisted by Invest NI to Develop Election Services
Modern Democracy in Londonderry is investing over £327,000 and providing four new jobs, with Invest Northern Ireland assistance, to develop products and services for use within the elections industry.
Based at the Northern Ireland Science Park, the company has received assistance from Invest NI of £39,000 and will provide high quality employment opportunities with an average salary of £30,750.
Modern Democracy was established in July 2014 by Siobhan Donaghy. Siobhan has extensive experience in developing software for elections, as a founding member of Opt2vote, an election company which was also established in Derry, and then subsequently as Head of Commercial for Idox Elections.
Des Gartland, Manager of Invest NI’s North West Regional Office in Derry, said: “This is an innovative project with immense potentially both here and in international markets because it promotes the use of the latest advances in technology to the democratic process.
“Our assistance has been shaped to enable the company to bring new services and technology to market as quickly as practicable and to recruit the expert and experienced staff required to ensure success in both short and long terms.
“The investment consolidates Londonderry’s position as a leader in technology for elections at all levels and throughout the democratic world.”
Ms Donaghy said: “Modern Democracy is founded on my wide experience in developing technology solutions, together with my extensive knowledge of the elections sector. Our consultancy services and hopefully our future products will provide innovative solutions for our customers.
“We have just successfully completed our first international contract to a client in Sweden providing consultancy for an elections pre-study and I very much look forward to delivering many more of these contracts and extending our business in the years to come.
“Invest NI’s assistance, especially for the marketing of our innovative services and technology, has been extremely important and has helped us in attracting funding from other sources,” she added.
