Networking is Key Ingredient in Recipe for Success

Local television celebrity, author and cook, Jenny Bristow, helped to outline a recipe for business success at the recent launch of a new women’s network aimed at promoting female entrepreneurship in the north east.

The Women on the Move network has been set up with support from Invest NI to assist, support and motivate female entrepreneurs.

Over 100 Co Antrim businesswomen attended the launch and heard the key speaker Professor Terri Scott, Managing Director with responsibility for Entrepreneurship in Invest NI, highlight the central role that networks play in helping entrepreneurs and businesses in the early stages.

Professor Scott said: “Networks are a powerful means of communication, sharing expertise and experience. This network facilitates us in getting information and support to entrepreneurs in a very focused way.

“Most importantly it creates a forum where women can develop their personal and business skills, help each other and as a result, pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.”

The primary aims of the Women on the Move network are to help women:

• develop business and personal skills;

• access networking opportunities;

• share knowledge and best practice; and

• find innovation, inspiration and support.

It is one of five women’s networks operating across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of female entrepreneurship, and highlight key initiatives available to them within mainstream business support.

“Women are one of the key market segments of our overall Go For It campaign. We want to increase the number of women who start up in business in Northern Ireland, and the number who are able to grow their business,” explains Prof Scott.

“This involves helping women overcome traditional barriers to enterprise such as social and cultural perceptions of a woman’s role, and poor access to information and knowledge. I believe this new network will make an enormous contribution to boosting levels of enterprise among women in this region.”
