Newry Businesses Identify Cost Savings at Resource Efficiency Event Hosted By MJM
Over £1million of potential cost savings were recently identified by local businesses at an Invest Northern Ireland resource matching workshop hosted by MJM Interior Build in Newry.
The event, which forms part of Invest NI’s Industrial Symbiosis (IS) Service, brought 21 businesses from the Newry area together to discuss and identify opportunities to exchange resources which may otherwise end up in landfill. As a result, 75 potential collaborations were identified.
Deputy Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor David Taylor and Naoimh McConville, Business Analyst at MJM, welcomed the business representatives.
Naoimh McConville said: “MJM was delighted to host this resource efficiency event. It was a great opportunity for local business to come together in our new facility to identify potential synergies and reduce our wasted resources. Industrial symbiosis is highly beneficial to the Northern Ireland business community and we hope to use this progressive service further to become more efficient and effective."
Having attended a synergy workshop in Enniskillen earlier this year MJM was keen to host a workshop at its state of the art premises in Carnbane Industrial Estate, Newry. Owing to the nature of their bespoke design and manufacturing processes the company was keen to identify solutions for wasted resources. MJM sought to identify key partners to ensure that any wasted resources are recovered or reused where possible.
Olive Hill, Invest NI’s Director of Innovation and Technical Solutions, said: “The workshops offer businesses such as MJM the opportunity to find long term solutions for resources that are currently being wasted but which could generate much needed cost savings through reuse or recycling.
“I would encourage businesses to attend the workshops and explore how this service could realise savings and increase sales in their business.”
The Industrial Symbiosis service is funded by Invest NI and part financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness programme for Northern Ireland.
