Newry company wins new export business

Newry-based FM Environmental has won new business in Malaysia for its Grease Guardian grease removal systems, following an Invest Northern Ireland trade mission.

The company, which took part in last month’s mission to Singapore and Malaysia, is supplying the systems to a new distributor signed up during the week-long trip.

The new distributor, Environmental Products and Services (EPS), which is based in Ipoh but also has operations in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, will also play a pivotal role in expanding the Northern Ireland engineering company’s sales to neighbouring markets, including Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.

As well as winning new business in Malaysia, FM has also recently sold its first Grease Guardian units to Mexico and has seen its business in Australia, Malta and North Africa grow strongly over the past year. In addition, FM Grease Guardians are being installed in all McDonald’s fast-food restaurants across Romania.

Eamonn Fitzpatrick Jnr, Manager of FM’s Grease Guardian division, says: “We used the Invest NI mission to implement a new strategy for South East Asia which is based on a centralised distributor for our range of highly innovative grease removal systems.

“This is an approach that we’ve developed successfully in other markets and we are confident that it will help us to drive sales faster in South East Asia, a diverse region which offers significant business opportunities for us.

“Demand for Grease Guardians is growing strongly because of the developing focus in many parts of South Asia towards clean water. As a result, pressure is growing on hotels, restaurants and fast food operators to implement measures to ensure that grease and fat are removed from waste water. The Grease Guardian is a proven solution.

“Over the years we’ve used Invest NI trade missions as a very cost-effective means of exploring new markets and developing our business in others,” he adds.

Alan Hingston, Invest NI’s Trade Director, welcoming FM’s latest success in Asia, says: “This is another encouraging development for a company which has used our services to develop significant business in target markets worldwide. This commitment to growth through exports has led to the company becoming a major player in the environmental engineering industry through a focus on innovative products and customer-focused services.”
