North West companies urged to profit from growing sustainable economy
Companies in the North West can boost their profitability during the downturn by becoming more resource efficient and getting involved in the lucrative renewable energy industry.
That will be the focus of an Invest Northern Ireland workshop in the Guild Hall, Londonderry, on 30 September at which businesses can meet, on a one-to-one basis, with experts in energy efficiency, waste reduction and renewable energy.
Supported by Derry City Council, the workshop is open to all businesses in the North West area. Company delegates will have the opportunity to discuss issues of specific interest with experts from the Carbon Trust, Envirowise, the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) and Invest NI’s Sustainable Development Team.
Des Gartland, Manager of Invest NI’s North West Regional Office, says: “The demand for power from renewable sources is increasing all the time as governments around the world continue to work towards challenging targets on sustainability and carbon output. This is presenting a growing number of significant commercial opportunities for North West companies.
“Equally, businesses in the area can realise significant savings, particularly valuable in the current climate, by cutting waste and using the most efficient heating and power generation equipment. Invest NI, in partnership with the Carbon Trust, Envirowise and NISP, offers a range of support, including financial assistance and free consultancy and advice, to help companies of all sizes get involved and reap the benefits.”
Invest NI’s North West Sustainable Development Workshop starts at 9am on Wednesday 30 September in Londonderry’s Guild Hall. One-to-one appointments are limited to 15 minute slots and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To register contact Shauna.McDaid@investni.com or phone 028 7126 7257.
