£17 Million Investment To Create 100 Jobs In Belfast
Tyco Fire & Security, through its Belfast based subsidiary CEM Systems, is to create up to 100 new jobs as a result of a £17 million investment.
Supported by an offer of £1.75 million from Invest Northern Ireland, this investment will see Tyco Fire & Security establish a new centre of technical excellence within CEM. It will increase the competitiveness of its product engineering and design function, further enhancing the skills base and capability of its workforce.
The new engineering and research centre will fulfil technology and product development objectives for the access control and video systems brands, including American Dynamics, which is part of Tyco Fire & Security.
Making the announcement, DETI Permanent Secretary, Stephen Quinn said: “This is a significant investment by a blue chip organisation. It will help to drive sustainable growth in the valuable ICT sector of the Northern Ireland economy. With support from Invest NI, this centre of excellence will create new hi-tech, high value jobs and deliver an additional £2.8m of wages and salaries annually into the economy.
“Tyco’s investment here sends out a clear message that Northern Ireland has a knowledge-rich technology infrastructure, and a highly talented workforce that can add value to the operations of global companies. In addition, it reinforces this region’s reputation as a highly competitive location for world class companies.”
Don Lyman, Director of Tyco’s CEM Systems added: “We examined a number of options for the new centre, and the Northern Ireland proposition met all of our requirements. R&D is an integral part of our strategic growth plans as it ensures that we continue to offer cutting edge products and solutions to our world-wide customer base incorporating the latest technological advances.
“The new centre of technology excellence in Belfast will enable us to make major global advances in the area of digital internet protocol (IP) applications thanks to the strong local skills base and a specially designed R&D and Product Engineering facility.”
