£800,000 investment by energy solutions company

Saintfield firm Hughes Energy Systems Ltd is investing almost £800,000 over the next three years in a project to increase its exports, with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

Hughes Energy Systems provides products and services to increase the efficiency of its customers’ energy processes, helping businesses to reduce energy consumption and costs, and meet legal requirements on power usage levels. Its clients include companies in sectors such as manufacturing, retail and hospitality throughout the Republic of Ireland.

Invest NI’s Director of Regional Economic Development, Graham Davis, said: “Hughes Energy Systems has identified a number of key activities as part of its strategy to increase its sales outside Northern Ireland, and we are helping the company to implement these in order to secure new export business and increase profits.

“Hughes Energy Systems is raising the profile of its products and services amongst potential customers through targeted advertising, attendance at trade shows and the delivery of information seminars for specific clients. This is helping the company to exploit commercial opportunities in niche markets, particularly in the Republic of Ireland. Promotion of its energy solutions on the internet is also pivotal to its expansion strategy, and five new employees are being recruited to help the company meet increasing demand resulting from the drive to win new business.

“The environmental business sector presents considerable business opportunities for Northern Ireland companies. Firms such as Hughes Energy Systems, which position themselves strongly, can reap significant profits.”

Anne Hughes, Joint Managing Director of Hughes Energy Systems, said: “The overall demand for our products and services is growing as more companies strive to reduce their carbon footprint and meet legal requirements related to climate change targets. Many businesses throughout the world are feeling the effects of the economic downturn and are aware of the need to cut operating costs at every opportunity. Our products can help achieve this.”

“This investment is enabling us to maximise commercial opportunities and we are confident that we will increase sales in key target markets over the next two to three years,” added Ms Hughes.
