SKILLS AND TRAINING ROADSHOW
A Skills and Training Roadshow, organised by Invest Northern Ireland and supported by Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey Councils, gets underway next week.
The roadshow, beginning in Larne on 10th September, aims to give people in the east Antrim area the chance to investigate training and employment opportunities including the option of starting their own business.
The roadshows are one of a series of initiatives organised by the East Antrim Forum which was established in October 2002 at the request of Sir Reg Empey, the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment at that time.
The Forum has developed an economic action plan for the area to try to counteract the effect of recent job losses.
Claire Herron, manager of Invest NI’s north eastern local office says: “Due to down-sizing or closure of several IT companies in east Antrim, a large number of people from the area have found themselves facing redundancy.
“This roadshow is a way of increasing awareness of what opportunities are available to the unemployed or those facing redundancy and will also promote the self-employment option. It will make available all the information people need to find out about training courses, employment opportunities and setting up a business.
“We would encourage people to come along and find out what avenues are open to them and discover the wealth of support that exists to help them set up a business or learn new skills that will open up employment opportunities for them.”
The show will include exhibitions from Invest Northern Ireland, job centres, the councils, local enterprise agencies, and other organisations offering support for training or setting up a business.
