SpotX Establishes Tech Engineering Centre in Belfast

US advertising technology company SpotX has established a development centre in Belfast with 20 new jobs.

The centre will establish a software engineering presence in Northern Ireland to enhance SpotX’s global development capabilities.

The Colorado-based firm provides a video inventory management platform working with publishers and broadcasters around to the world to monetise their online and mobile video advertising.

Invest Northern Ireland has offered £110,000 of support towards the 20 new jobs.

Welcoming the investment, Bill Montgomery, Invest NI’s Director of International Investment said: “SpotX’s decision to establish this centre in Northern Ireland is based on the many advantages that this region has to offer international companies and is another vote of confidence for our growing IT sector.

“These 20 jobs will contribute over £653,000 in salaries annually to the economy and offer excellent employment opportunities for graduates and experienced software engineers.”

Ten of the positions are already in place with the remainder to be filled within the next two years.

Founded in Colorado in 2007, SpotX has expanded globally, opening offices in New York, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Sweden, Belfast, Singapore and Sydney, and employs over 300 people.

The company is a part of European entertainment network RTL Group, which acquired a majority stake in the business in September 2014.

Commenting on the decision to locate in Belfast, Steve Swoboda, Co-Founder, COO and CFO of SpotX said: “SpotX is focused on becoming the leading video inventory management platform globally and this expansion is an exciting step towards that goal.

“We considered a number of locations for our development centre but chose to locate our European software engineering team in Belfast because of Northern Ireland’s expanding technology sector and the calibre of talented engineers.

“The global market for programmatic buying of online video advertising is projected to continue to grow aggressively for several years. This new centre forms part of a strategy to scale our development operation in order to address a wider customer base in the US, Europe and Asia.”

Over seven billion video ad decisions are processed through the SpotX platform daily, with ads delivered to more than 600 million people in over 190 countries per month.
