Swan Glides Into Europe with £1.8 Million Belfast Base
Swan Labs Inc - a premier US provider of network technology solutions – has set up its European centre of operations in Belfast as part of a £1.8 million investment supported by Invest Northern Ireland.
Swan Labs Inc. intends to generate at least 40 highly skilled jobs by 2007 with the creation of a subsidiary – Swan Labs Ltd – which will focus on the design, development, and implementation of solutions aimed at making business applications, including email, Oracle and Siebel work more efficiently.
Invest NI is supporting the investment with an offer of almost £500,000, which incorporates a £250,000 product development grant offered under the Invest NI Compete programme.
“The Swan Labs investment highlights the growing level of international confidence in the local economy and its high-growth ICT sector,” says Invest NI Chief Executive, Leslie Morrison.
“Northern Ireland is fast becoming a premier location for international businesses such as Swan Labs, which are seeking a highly skilled workforce, a first-class support infrastructure and easy access to international markets.”
“I am confident that this investment will facilitate the successful entry of Swan Labs Ltd and the Swan product portfolio into the key European, Middle East and African markets. It will be very good for the Northern Ireland economy,” he adds.
The company has established a full-service product development, engineering support and international sales and marketing function, and has plans to bolster development, quality assurance, testing and direct sales within the next six months.
Kevin Donaghy, Chief Executive Officer, Swan Labs Ltd comments: “The high calibre of software engineers in Northern Ireland will allow us to rapidly develop key software products that will enable customers to shape their applications and optimise network performance.”
“Support provided by Invest NI combined with the easy access to Europe provided by the Belfast location, were key factors in our decision to locate in Northern Ireland. “
Swan’s work in Northern Ireland will concentrate on the development of an appliance-based solution that delivers Local Area Network (LAN) application performance over the Wide Area Network (WAN). A LAN is a computer link that spans a relatively small area, ie. a single building or group of buildings. When a number of LANs are joined, they form a wide area network. Swan’s product will be unique in that it will be designed to work seamlessly across all WANs.
