Teamwear Ireland to Kit Out Basketball Market in £300,000 Expansion
The Belfast-based sportswear provider, Teamwear Ireland, is targeting the European basketball market and creating five new jobs as part of a £300,000 investment supported by Invest Northern Ireland.
Teamwear Ireland plans to recruit two marketing managers and three additional sales and production staff to drive its expansion. This investment will focus on marketing the firm’s own basketball kit brand, Wingfoot, to professional and club teams throughout Great Britain and Europe.
Invest NI has offered £48,000 towards the creation of these new positions as well as Teamwear Ireland’s market research and sales development activities.
Commenting on the investment, Co-Director Peter Cooke, said: “We identified basketball and the supply of basketball kits as a growth area for our business and developed our own brand, Wingfoot, to capitalise on the growing popularity of this sport across Europe.
“This investment is aiming at rolling out the Wingfoot brand and raising our profile among the professional Basketball leagues in Spain, Greece and Eastern Europe.
“Invest NI’s support is enabling us to accelerate our marketing activities and recruit the staff needed to drive our business growth in this new arena.”
The business specialises in the supply of playing kit and leisurewear to all sports and has generated great success with its e-shops service. This online portal offers bespoke branded shop for schools and clubs self service and individual choice for branded sports clothing and equipment.
Grainne McVeigh, Invest NI’s Director of Life Sciences, Electronics and Consumer Products, said: “This investment is a strategic move by Teamwear Ireland to diversify into a niche market which has the potential to triple its exports sales.
“Our support will enable the company to undertake extensive market research and sales development over the next 18-24 months and create five new jobs which will contribute over £100,000 annually in additional salaries to the local economy.”
