Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has expressed her disappointment at the announcement that Tyrone Crystal is to close its Dungannon factory.

Arlene Foster said: "This is a dreadful blow to the local area. Tyrone Crystal is not just a manufacturer, it is an iconic brand that has attracted tourism interest. It has also made a positive contribution to the wider economy.

The Minister continued: "The company has experienced very difficult trading conditions over the past number of years and, due to the continuing losses, the owners have been forced to announce the closure of the factory.

"It is a sad day to see such a long standing employer cease manufacturing."

The Minister added: "Invest NI has engaged extensively with the new owners since they acquired the company in 2006, to support their efforts to grow the business. I understand that efforts continue to try and find a buyer for the business, either in whole or in part.

"Invest NI will continue to work with the management of the company for as long as there remains any prospect of a sale. Representatives from Invest NI and the Department for Employment and Learning will engage with the workforce in order to provide whatever guidance and support is appropriate."
