Foster welcomes 150 new jobs for Londonderry

Enterprise Minster Arlene Foster has welcomed the announcement by FirstSource that it intends to create 150 new jobs in Londonderry.

Firstsource is a leading business process outsourcing (BPO) company, headquartered in Mumbai, India, which provides customised business process management services to global leaders across a number of sectors including the financial services, telecoms, media, and healthcare sectors. Its clients include FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 banks, telecommunications companies and healthcare companies.

The company already employs over 700 people at a site on Northland Road in Londonderry and a further 500 in Belfast. As a result of securing a new telecommunications client, FirstSource now plans to begin recruitment for an additional 150 people who will be based at Spencer Road, Londonderry, offering a variety of quality posts from customer support advisors to operations management.

The Minister said: “This is a welcome boost for the local economy and extremely good news for the North West. FirstSource is a globally respected company, with a strong focus on the training and development of its staff and this announcement will provide new employment opportunities at a time of economic uncertainty. On my visit to India earlier this year, I met with FirstSource management and was greatly encouraged by their positive experience in Northern Ireland and their clear focus on growth and business excellence.

“Today’s announcement clearly demonstrates the competitiveness of the Northern Ireland proposition during the current downturn, and the confidence FirstSource has in this region. Having forged a strong partnership with Invest Northern Ireland, FirstSource has become a major business services employer, strengthening the sector locally and contributing towards the further development of transferable skills, a trend which looks set to continue.”
