Invest Northern Ireland has announced the completion of the first phase of the extended business park at Carnbane Industrial Estate in Newry

Approximately 20 acres of new serviced land are now available to qualifying businesses. To date, six eligible companies have declared an interest in acquiring sites at the business park.

Bill Scott, Invest NI’s Director of Regional Business said: “Our extension to the business park in Newry will help address the shortage of available industrial land in the district and play an important role in supporting economic development in the area.

“This investment forms part of Invest NI’s land holding policy to develop land for industrial use in locations where the private sector is unwilling or unable to do so. Our policy ensures that local and foreign investors have access to the high quality serviced sites that they need to support the set up and growth of sustainable businesses. The facilities offered by this business park will help Newry continue to develop as an attractive and successful business hub.”

Infrastructure development works on the £19 million investment by Invest NI have been underway since February 2011.

“We are proactively marketing this site to both foreign and local investors as an investment location and will continue to work with Newry and Mourne District Council to progress this development as well as the companies who declare an interest in locating there,” Mr Scott added.

The subsequent phases will be developed and released in response to the demand from qualifying businesses.

Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, John McArdle said: “The opening of the Carnbane Business Park has been much anticipated and the six expressions of interest recorded so far is positive news. Carnbane is a strategic site in the district and I very much welcome Invest NI’s commitment to develop this land for industrial use. I look forward to investors locating at our new business park and creating jobs in the area.”

Colin Loughran, Managing Director of Lagan Construction added: “Lagan Construction was delighted to get the opportunity to deliver this fully serviced extension to the Carnbane Industrial Development in Newry.  The project has been delivered by Lagan Construction to the highest possible standards and our construction team has worked closely with Invest Northern Ireland to deliver a quality product, safely and ahead of programme”.
