Clients of Invest Northern Ireland were today encouraged to apply for a slice of the £5m “Accelerated Support” fund being made available.

Speaking at second of Invest Northern Ireland’s ‘Challenges and Opportunities – the Credit Crunch’ events, Ian Murphy, Managing Director, Clients and Entrepreneurship, at Invest NI said: “Invest NI is determined to provide the most effective and efficient support to help our clients successfully weather the current difficult global economic conditions.

“At the first event last week, Invest NI announced a £5m “Accelerated Support” fund to provide fast-track advice and financial assistance to all client companies whose competitiveness is being impacted or constrained by current global economic conditions.

“Through this fund, we are offering our clients, which are mostly locally-owned small and medium sized enterprises, up to 50% funding to identify and implement specific projects up to the value of £100,000.

“Around 250 businesses have attended these two events and we are confident that the “Accelerated Support” fund, combined with other initiatives we are proactively bringing forward, will play a fundamental part in ensuring that Invest NI clients continue to focus on continuous improvement for the medium to long term.”

At today’s event, which took place at the Glenavon Hotel, Cookstown, keynote speaker, Howard Hackney, a Partner at Grant Thornton UK, and a team of specialist business advisors, were on hand to help clients identify the critical areas of relevance to their business. Following individually tailored discussions, clients will be able to obtain up to five days free on-site specialist support to help them clearly identify their critical issues and the actions they need to take.

While the “Accelerated Support” fund is only available to Invest NI clients, many of the agency’s export, energy, environmental and information and communications technology programmes are open to non-clients.

Invest NI’s information website, nibusinessinfo.co.uk, also provides free access to key information, advice, funding and training to all businesses.
