Invest NI Expresses Disappointment at Caterpillar Announcement

Sep 01, 2016

Commenting on today’s announcement by Caterpillar, Alastair Hamilton, Chief Executive, Invest Northern Ireland said: “Today’s news is deeply disappointing and will be very upsetting for Caterpillar employees and their families.

“Following Caterpillar’s announcement in September 2015 of the potential for up to 10,000 jobs to be lost globally, we have been maintaining regular contact with the company, both here and in the US, as it worked through its global restructuring.  The company has had to make some very difficult decisions, including the consolidation or closure of approximately 20 sites worldwide. Unfortunately the scale of market decline has meant that we have not been able to alter the company’s plans to consolidate its Northern Ireland operation from four to three sites, with Monkstown to close.

“We will continue to provide input and guidance to the company where we can and, as always, will work to provide whatever support possible to help affected staff."
