Invest NI helps Dungannon company cut costs

Nov 06, 2009

Dungannon company PM Fireplaces has cut its overheads by 25 per cent and opened up new business opportunities in Great Britain, thanks to support from Invest Northern Ireland.

PM Fireplaces supplies a range of high quality fire surrounds and bespoke architectural products made from premium materials including marble, slate and granite.

The company invested heavily in IT infrastructure, marketing and staff skills development. The operational improvements including more streamlined and efficient processes generated significant savings. This combined with a more interactive and sales-focused website to be launched next month, will help the company to effectively target the wholesale fireplace market in Great Britain.

Congratulating PM Fireplaces on its success, Mary Gormley, Manager of Invest NI’s Western Regional Office in Omagh, said: “Companies can achieve significant efficiency savings by increasing the computerisation of processes such as stock control, job costing and order processing. This helps to cut out duplication and speed up the completion of tasks.

“PM Fireplaces has recognised this and embraced the benefits of e-Business, realising cost reductions that are proving invaluable during what is a difficult period for building supply businesses.”

John Mc Nulty, Managing Director of PM Fireplaces commented: “We are always keen to reduce costs where possible and, having examined the business’s operations with expert help from Invest NI, we knew that improving our IT systems could help achieve this.

“Along with the investment in improving the skills of our staff, this has enabled us to cost jobs and fulfil orders more quickly, whilst keeping even tighter control of our stock levels and reducing waste.

“Support from Invest NI has also enabled us to improve our online presence, a vital tool in our highly competitive sector. This has also helped us attract heightened interest from the GB market, which we hope will be a key future growth area for us.”
