Invest NI helps local aerospace companies look east for new business

Feb 18, 2008

Six local aerospace firms are participating in the prestigious Singapore Air Show, with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

The show is being held from 17-21 February and is one of the top three air shows in the world, attracting around 900 exhibitors from 42 countries.

Invest NI is assisting the companies to participate on a trade mission with the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC). This will give them access to a wide range of events organised by SBAC, including meetings with key Singaporean aerospace industry representatives and British Embassy networking receptions.

Alan Hingston, Invest NI’s Director of Trade, said: “There are over 100 aerospace companies in Singapore, with the emphasis on repair and maintenance rather than producing finished aircraft. It is also the centre of decision-making for many of the major global aerospace manufacturers.

“This environment, along with the current growth in aviation worldwide, is presenting more and more significant export opportunities for local aerospace companies and could enable them to build on their already strong market positions.

“Furthermore, the Singapore Air Show is the epicentre for major industry players from surrounding Asia-Pacific countries and, through our co-operation with SBAC, it provides an excellent opportunity to establish lucrative relationships in these markets.”
