Invest NI Statement in Relation to Michelin Announcement

Nov 11, 2015

Responding to the announcement by Michelin Tyre plc (MTPLC) of its proposal to run down the truck tyre factory in Ballymena, Invest NI Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton said:

“Today’s announcement will be deeply upsetting for employees and their families. Michelin has been a significant employer in the area for many years and the impact of its decision to close the Ballymena site is a great loss for the area and for Northern Ireland. We will of course engage with the company to fully understand its decision to close the plant.

“We appreciate the company’s commitment to supporting its employees to find alternative employment with its £5m development fund. Invest NI will work with the company and other partners, including Mid and East Antrim Council and the Department of Employment and Learning, to help staff to consider all alternative employment options.”
