Invest NI is supporting a new research and development project being carried out by Bangor based DTS Licensing Limited NI (DLL NI), a world leader in the development of digital technology for the entertainment industry.
DLL NI Ltd, which is owned by US company DTS Inc., is investing £375,000 to develop innovative new audio mixing technology that could significantly enhance the surround-sound output of movies and television programmes. Invest NI has offered almost £66,000 including part funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Tracy Meharg, Invest NI’s Managing Director of Innovation and Capability Development, says: “The DLL NI team has an outstanding track record of commercialising cutting-edge audio technologies dating back to 1995 as inventors of the original DTS Digital Surround technology. This investment will help it to stay at the forefront of audio technologies innovation globally. In addition it will benefit the local economy by further strengthening skills in this important sector and contributing to the knowledge base.”
DLL NI currently employs 18 highly qualified and experienced electronic and software engineers who develop many of the new technologies within the DTS group with particular focus on digital surround sound, broadcast and audio post processing algorithms and products.
Paul Smith, Senior Vice President of R&D in DTS, says: “This innovation will further enhance the audio experience that we can offer our customers and has the potential for worldwide application. Invest NI’s support is essential in allowing us to move quickly to develop and commercialise the technology. We also recognise the quality of the staff that we have in the Bangor operation and the significant contribution they continue to make to DTS’s success.”
