Mar 22, 2005

Invest Northern Ireland is supporting a £1.1 million investment by Oracle Corporation, the world’s leading enterprise software company.

Oracle is to set up a facility in Belfast that will provide services to its customers in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Invest NI has offered £250,000 in support of the investment.

Announcing the investment Leslie Morrison, Chief Executive of Invest NI, said: “I’m delighted to announce the arrival of another leading international name in Northern Ireland. Oracle is the world’s leading supplier of software for information management and today’s announcement, in addition to those made recently by other major international software companies, illustrates that the quality of investor companies we are attracting is of a very high standard.

“In our draft corporate plan Invest NI identifies ‘being international’ as a key economic driver. Inward investments such as this will help in the positioning of Northern Ireland as a truly internationally focused economy.”

Nicky Sheridan, Vice President and Managing Director of Oracle Ireland, said: “Oracle technology leads the industry in terms of security, scalability and availability and we are continually at the forefront of technical innovation.

We chose Northern Ireland as the location for this new facility because of the availability of experienced IT professionals with a strong academic background, and the support offered by Invest Northern Ireland. In a climate where upskilling has become a priority for many businesses, including our own, a wider pool from which to recruit skilled workers is a welcome development.”

“We are looking forward to working in partnership with Invest NI and establishing links with the local universities in the development of new products and services.”

The new Oracle facility will be located in the Laganside area of Belfast.

Oracle Corporation is the world’s largest enterprise software company, providing enterprise software to the world’s largest and most successful businesses. Headquartered in Redwood Shores, California, the company offers database, tools and application products.
