Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell has congratulated Belfast based JumpCut Media on the launch of their new Music and Video app at South by Southwest (SxSW) in Austin Texas.
Jonathan Bell said: "Through Invest Northern Ireland support for R&D, Jumpcut Media has developed an innovative app which will help users, such as musicians and extreme sports enthusiasts, create short video content with music.
"For a start-up business the company is already making huge strides and has been chosen by UKTI as one of 15 ‘Best of British’ up and coming technology companies at the SxSW conference in Austin, Texas this week. My Department’s support for exhibitions like SxSW helps improve communications and links with the US and strengthens what is a thriving and up and coming industry in Northern Ireland.
"It is crucial we continue to encourage companies to pursue this kind of innovation to support the long term future of businesses in Northern Ireland. JumpCut media is an excellent example which highlights how R&D can benefit fledgling businesses with ambition and growth potential. I would encourage all businesses in Northern Ireland to explore how they could benefit from investment in innovation through R&D."
The company has received a Grant for R&D of £76,122 to assist in the development of the app and marketing and trade support of £16,650 to help it promote the new technology internationally, including at events such as SXSW.
Invest NI’s research and development assistance is part funded by ERDF under the EU Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme 2014–2020.
Mark Gordon, CEO of JumpCut Media said: "Our new app is providing a solution which now allows short video and music to seamlessly work together into a fully synced 15 second video. Rather than shooting video first and adding unlicensed audio as an accompanying element the app allows the user to shoot video in time with the music. The driving force behind the app is that with the popularity in social media platforms people are making and sharing more short videos than ever before.
"Invest NI support has been vital in helping us to scope out and develop this new app and we are very excited to be unveiling the beta version at SxSW this week and will roll out the fuller version of the app at MIDEM in France in June."
