Local business community supported in economic downturn

Jan 19, 2009

The wide range of help available for local businesses during the economic slowdown will be highlighted at an event in the North West Business Complex, Londonderry, on 27 January, organised by Invest Northern Ireland.

The economic development body is collaborating with NI Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise NI, Derry City Council and Strabane District Council to help them coordinate the Business Information Seminar and support the wider business community, beyond Invest NI client companies.

The event is part of a series taking place throughout Northern Ireland in January and February.

Ian Murphy, Invest NI’s Managing Director of Clients and Entrepreneurship, said: “Small and medium sized businesses are the backbone of the Northern Ireland economy. It is imperative that they receive efficient, effective and timely support in these extraordinary economic times to secure their long-term survival and commercial success.

“Delegates who attend these events will hear about the variety of practical help they can avail of in areas including marketing, cost reduction, cash flow management, energy efficiency, securing extra sales, and product and service development. Independent on-to-one advice will also be available to attendees.

“By benefiting from such support, businesses can boost their performance and competitiveness and be in a stronger position to capitalise on improving market conditions when the economic cycle turns for the better.

“All of the bodies that provide enterprise support locally are cooperating to deliver these seminars and ensure that all businesses obtain ample information to help them take appropriate action and steer successfully through these unstable trading conditions. Each organisation has a wealth of experience and together we offer a wide range of assistance for the entire business community.”

This series complements the ‘Challenges and Opportunities’ events that have been organised specifically for Invest NI clients since September, to help companies navigate through the Credit Crunch.
