Jun 18, 2010

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster congratulated Ulster Weavers Home Fashions Ltd which has been appointed by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) as an official licensee to supply official London 2012 kitchen textiles.

Ulster Weavers Home Fashions Ltd is a world famous home textiles company, based in Holywood, Co. Down. The 130 year old firm, holds a Royal Warrant and sells its range of home textile products internationally.

Its first London 2012 products will be in the shops from the end of 2010 and will include official London 2012 tea towels, aprons, oven gloves, tea cosies and textile bags. In 2011, this will be followed by official Team GB and Paralympics GB supporter products.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster commented: “This is an extremely positive development for Ulster Weavers Home Fashions Ltd which is a highly respected and long established part of the local textiles sector. The agreement will see supporters of London 2012 purchase goods designed here in NI.

“The London 2012 Games offer valuable opportunities for NI companies. Since the decision was made to host the Games in London, Invest NI has been working to help companies develop their capabilities, particularly in relation to tender skills so they can position themselves as strongly as possible to secure business.

“It is vitally important that our firms can tap into the potential opportunities associated with London 2012. A number of local companies have already secured opportunities in the construction phase of the Games and I hope that many more, just like Ulster Weavers, can succeed in winning business and become part of this iconic event.”

The appointment of Ulster Weavers Home Fashions Ltd to produce official London 2012 kitchen textiles supports the already substantial London 2012 licensing programme through which vital revenue to stage the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will be raised. Official London 2012 licensed products currently on sale include sportswear, die cast model vehicles and pin badges.
