Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster has announced that San Diego company Leardon Solutions is to create 10 new jobs in Belfast.

The multinational product development corporation has chosen Northern Ireland as the location for its new product development and design centre.

Making the announcement in San Diego, Arlene Foster said: “The decision by Leardon Solutions to establish its European centre in Northern Ireland is a vote of confidence in what we have to offer investors.

“Recent figures released in the EY Attractiveness Survey 2014 show that Northern Ireland was the best performing region in the UK last year for inward investment. On a per capita basis, we secured almost 40% more new inward investment jobs than the next best region, and three times as many as London.

“Like many other US investors, Leardon Solutions will find Northern Ireland to be a cost-competitive and business-friendly environment, where it can access excellent government support.”

The new jobs offer salaries about the Private Sector Medium, at an average of £29,000 per annum.

Mike Hoggatt, CEO of Leardon Solutions, said: “We looked at a number of locations for our European centre and were attracted to Northern Ireland because of the pool of experienced technical, design and engineering skills, the support available and the chance to work closely with local universities.

“We will begin recruiting in August 2014 and will be looking for a variety of roles including Development Engineers, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Engineers and Programme Managers. We hope to have all the posts filled by March 2017.”
