At a recent visit to Northbrook Technology’s contact centre in Strabane, Leslie Morrison, chief executive of Invest Northern Ireland, congratulated the company on the recruitment of its 200th Strabane based employee.
The contact centre was set up just six months ago with support from Invest NI and has grown rapidly, already exceeding planned employment targets.
Mr Morrison said: “Northbrook’s choice of Strabane as the location for this contact centre has been entirely vindicated by the success of the centre to date.
“The centre has created good-quality jobs in an area that has suffered from the downsizing of the textiles industry. It provides an example of how a region that is prepared to be adaptable can make the shift to service industries.
“Invest NI’s North West Action Plan aims to transform the economy here by attracting investment from companies like Northbrook and enhancing the local skill base. The success of this contact centre represents a significant milestone along the road to rejuvenating the local economy.”
Northbrook Technology employs over 1,300 staff across its sites in Belfast, Londonderry and Strabane, providing both software development and customer support services.
Bro McFerran, the company’s managing director, commented: “In addition to recruiting a mix of graduates and experienced ICT staff across all disciplines, we’ve been delighted at the willingness of people in the Strabane area to retrain, and the standard of personnel we have been able to attract. Many of those who have recently joined our team have been unemployed or have come from a manufacturing background. Whilst we are delighted to have reached the current employment level, further opportunities exist for those, either having, or committed to developing, the skills needed to deliver our range of services.
“We’re confident that this centre will continue to offer cost-effective services and believe that there are opportunities for further growth.”
