Pallas Foods meets potential suppliers in Northern Ireland

Top Irish food service distributor Pallas Foods was introduced by Invest Northern Ireland’ s Food Division to a range of new products from 13 local companies at a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in Newry.

Invest NI lined up one-to-one meetings between senior buyers from Dublin-based Pallas Foods and executives from the local companies during the one-day event held in Invest NI’s regional office in Newry.

The buyers saw a broad range of local food including bread, cakes, ready meals, smoothies and cheese, produced mainly by small to medium sized companies from many parts of Northern Ireland.

The event was part of an ongoing programme of meet the buyer sessions organised by Invest NI as part of its commitment to provide local food companies with opportunities to sell their products outside Northern Ireland. Similar events have also been held with major supermarkets and speciality food stores, as well as vending operators and public procurement bodies.

Shane McArdle, Invest NI’s Food Marketing Adviser in the Republic of Ireland, commenting on the event, said: “We’ve been working with Pallas Foods for some time as part of our campaign to increase awareness of the quality of Northern Ireland food with major distributors in the Republic.

“Pallas offers access to a network of 4,500 customers and has a current portfolio of over 3,000 products. It is unique in offering fresh, frozen and ambient products that are delivered on a next day basis throughout Ireland.

“It achieves this because it has nine distribution/delivery centres across the island. The company already lists many Northern Ireland companies and is keen to see new and innovative products that could appeal to its customers.

“Meet the Buyer events enable companies of all sizes, across a range of sectors to build relationships with key buyers and keep abreast of market requirements and trends. It gives them the opportunity to discover what buyers believe customers want, and then see if they can adapt existing products or develop new ones in response to these needs,” he added.
