Putting Agri-Food First with Invest Northern Ireland

Feb 16, 2006

Invest Northern Ireland is helping the largest ever attendance of local agri-food and drinks companies create a strong Northern Ireland presence at the UK’s leading food service and hospitality show Hotelympia, which runs from the 19-23 February at the ExCel international conference and exhibition centre, London.

Hosting over 1,000 international exhibitors the bi-annual show is one of the biggest events within the food and drink sector calendar and gives visitors the opportunity to find new and innovative products.

It has also been designed to help agri-food and drinks companies to network, secure new business and learn more about emerging trends within the sector.

Invest NI’s support for the local firms attending forms part of a larger government backed strategy called ‘Fit for Market’, which has been specifically designed to promote the growth of Northern Ireland’s agri-food and drink industry.

Overseen by the Food Strategy Implementation Partnership (FSIP), an industry led steering group chaired by Dan Flinter, the strategy is being delivered jointly by Invest NI and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).

Speaking on behalf of Invest NI and DARD, Maynard Mawhinney, Director of Food at Invest NI said:

“In helping these companies to exhibit their products and services at the show we are introducing them to new market opportunities in the food service sector with strong potential for profit. By participating in events like this local companies will be able to reach new international customers and develop their exporting capabilities.”

Commenting on the forthcoming event Dan Flinter, Chairman of FSIP said:

“Hotelympia is an excellent opportunity for local companies to get close to and develop their understanding of the international food service and hospitality market. I am confident that all the companies participating at the show will take advantage of the networking opportunities on offer and many will win new business.”
