Antrim-based Legal-Island, an Invest Northern Ireland backed company specialising in employment law, is proving that businesses can thrive even in challenging economic conditions.

Invest NI has provided advisory and financial assistance to help Legal-Island step up its marketing drive in recent years. This has resulted in a 20 per cent increase in business in the Republic of Ireland over the last 12 months.

The company, which provides legal training and information services, has experienced a growth in demand for its services in the Republic of Ireland.

Managing Director, Barry Phillips, explains: “We specialise in all matters relevant to today's workforce in Northern Ireland and RoI. Employment law is an increasingly complex area of law. Due to the current economic slowdown and the intricacies of legislation, we are experiencing a significant increase in the number of new and existing customers that are approaching us for advice.”

“Invest NI has supported not only our marketing activity but also the growth of the company through management salary grants. This has been invaluable in helping us expand our customer base in the Republic of Ireland, which now accounts for over 50 per cent of our market,” adds Mr Phillips.

Gren Armstrong, Manager of Invest NI’s North East Regional Office, says: “Legal-Island offers a niche, high-value service that maximises its customer reach by using both Internet-based and client-facing service options. The company is proof that, even in today’s difficult economic environment, innovative and high quality goods and services can compete in export markets and deliver business success.”
