Northern Ireland is home to a dynamic cluster of companies who are working with global clients and international partners to deliver creative solutions within animation, audio technology, mobile content, e-learning and music.
A flourishing animation sector is supported by specialised graduate and undergraduate courses in computer animation for games, VFX, feature and TV animation. Local company Sixteen South has earned over 30 major international awards including the prestigious Broadcast Award for its children’s animation series “Lily’s Driftwood Bay” which is shown in over 120 countries. Northern Ireland also has a vibrant and highly entrepreneurial music industry which contributes £61.5 million in annual GVA to the local economy and employs around 4,000 people.
With world-class facilities and access to a highly skilled talent pool, Northern Ireland also enjoys global recognition as an important production centre for film and television. HBO’s epic fantasy television series Game of Thrones® has largely been filmed in Northern Ireland since its pilot in 2010. Other companies such as Universal Pictures, BBC and Disney have also chosen Northern Ireland for recent productions.
