Why Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can make a difference

If you want to improve your competitiveness, productivity and performance, why not tap into the expertise available in our universities and colleges.

Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) stimulates growth and helps to drive future economic prosperity.

What is Knowledge Transfer Partnership

The KTP programme helps get the best minds working together to solve problems, respond to challenges and spark creativity.

KTP gives your business access to:

  • Graduate skills.
  • The wide research and technical base in third level institutions.
  • A channel for commercialising research.
  • The know-how to add value through new product development and new types of service delivery.

Queen's University Belfast is currently the UK's leading university for KTPs, with 40 partnerships ongoing, more than any other UK institution.

The Ulster University is currently placed 8th in the UK out of a total of 106 knowledge bases, with 17 live partnerships.

Successful KTP projects

A KTP between Queen’s and Newtownards based Hughes Insurance has been named as the 2014 Northern Ireland Regional Winner in this year’s KTP Awards and is in with a shout of being named best KTP Partnership in UK at the national awards in London on 4 November.

How to apply?

Invest Northern Ireland is currently inviting registrations of interest from Northern Ireland businesses for the KTP programme so come and talk to us about your proposed project.

Once a project is agreed, a university academic will be assigned to co-supervise your project and tap into the university’s bank of researchers and academics. A high calibre graduate will also be recruited to work on a full time basis on your project.
