Liopa is a leading expert in automated lip reading solutions, becoming the first company in the world to commercially release Visual Speech Recognition (VSR) technology.

The company has secured its first commercial contract with the Royal Preston Hospital in the UK for its Artificial Intelligence (AI) lip-reading app, SRAVI (Speech Recognition Application for the Voice Impaired).

The software was developed as a communications aid for the voice impaired. It provides simple, instant communication to those who cannot speak, due to having had a tracheostomy, stroke, trauma or other conditions. Using lip-reading technology, the software converts lip movements into text for a carer or family member to understand, contributing to the improved recovery and well-being of critically ill patients.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has also signed a commercial agreement to use SRAVI in NHS Hospitals on the intensive care unit with critically unwell patients.

We’re proud to be leading the way in a first of its kind technology. Moving forward, we want to help people with various medical conditions including stroke, trauma and paralysis and hope to see SRAVI implemented in more hospitals across the UK and beyond. We’re also excited to see where SRAVI will take us, with plans to move into new sectors including Automotive, Digital Healthcare, Finance and Security markets.
