AB Pneumatics Wins £600,000 Deal in China with Invest NI Assistance

AB Pneumatics in Lisburn has won new business in China worth around £600,000 a year with assistance from Invest Northern Ireland.

The contract, announced at the start of the latest Invest NI trade mission to China, involves the supply of air springs for vehicle seating to Commercial Vehicle Group (CVG) in Shanghai.

Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI Trade Director, welcoming the new business, which was announced by Peter Blair, Managing Director of AB Pneumatics, said: “This is tremendous news for AB Pneumatics, and a marvellous endorsement of the consistently high quality of this company’s products and its ability to meet CVG’s delivery and other requirements. It positions AB Pneumatics to benefit from CVG’s growth in what is now the world’s biggest and most dynamic market for commercial vehicles.

“This contract is a further example of the strengthening business relationship between China and Northern Ireland.  Our focus on the market, and associated programme of visits, is designed to encourage and assist businesses to identify opportunities just like this one. As a result of this strategic focus more Northern Ireland companies than ever before are doing worthwhile business in China.”

AB Pneumatics has taken advantage of a range of Invest NI programmes to assist its growth in exports, including R&D assistance part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Mr Blair said: “This very important strategic development for the company is the outcome of our longstanding relationship with the CVG operation in England. We’ve been supplying them with springs for truck seats for many years and much of this output was shipped to China. CVG in Shanghai has now decided to deal directly with us and this has led to this substantial contract.

“The deal is also significant in that it strengthens and deepens our business relationship with CVG, now among the biggest manufacturers in the US-owned corporation. It’s an important endorsement of our expertise, experience and products that will assist us in developing relationships with other global manufacturers requiring springs especially for cars and trucks. As well as CVG, we are supplying bespoke products to JaguarLandRover in Britain and Germany’s BMW.

“Invest Northern Ireland has been immensely supportive of our focus on building business in target markets such as China, Germany and the US,” he added.
