Foster opens US software firm's research and development centre
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has officially opened the new CyberSource offices in Belfast.
Last year it was announced that the US firm, a world leader in the development of secure electronic payment and risk management software solutions, would establish a 56 person research and development (R&D) centre in Belfast, with support from Invest Northern Ireland.
CyberSource now has 20 people in place at its new offices in Belfast carrying out a variety of advanced software development in conjunction with its research facilities in the US. Local activities are primarily focused on the development of state-of-the-art CyberSource technologies to help its base of over 260,000 global customers securely process payments for goods and services purchased over the Internet.
Speaking as she opened the offices, the Minister said: “Just over 12 months ago, on the first day of the USNI Investment Conference, we celebrated the announcement that one of the world’s most innovative software firms would be setting up a research and development centre here with Invest NI support.
“Today, as we celebrate the official opening of this new centre, we can see how rapidly CyberSource has developed its presence in Northern Ireland, with over a third of its target of 56 highly skilled staff in place.
“The work being carried out by the CyberSource team in Belfast is extremely advanced, a fact which highlights the availability of exceptionally talented and experienced software professionals across Northern Ireland. This strong skills base, combined with our growing reputation as a global knowledge hub, is continuing to attract investment and reinvestment from some of the world’s most dynamic ICT firms.”
Bill McKiernan, Chairman and CEO of CyberSource added: “The Belfast R&D centre has already proven to be a valuable addition to our global R&D operations. With increasing global demand for our services and our commitment to developing the most advanced risk management and secure payment solutions available, this centre has helped us to meet the demands of our customers and further strengthen our reputation for technical innovation.
“The people we have attracted to CyberSource are highly skilled, dedicated and capable engineers from across Northern Ireland. Based on their performance to date, I am confident that the Belfast team will continue to perform strongly as we move into the next stage of planned growth.”
