Invest NI support secures £81m of investment and over 300 new jobs in Mid Ulster District Council area

Invest Northern Ireland performance results for 2025/26 show that its support has helped secure £81m of business investment in the Mid Ulster District Council area.

The agency offered nearly £19m of assistance – more than twice that of last year – to help businesses in the area innovate, increase productivity and create new jobs. 323 new jobs will be created in the area as a result of this support.

Speaking about the results, Ethna McNamee, Head of Western Regional Business, Invest NI, said: “We supported some significant investments in the Mid Ulster Council area this year. Of particular note was support for O&S Doors and Capper Trading as part of the Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant scheme. Our Energy Efficiency team helped to secure this funding for Northern Ireland, leading to significant multi-million pound investments by the companies that impact the local Mid Ulster area and beyond.

“While O&S Doors is investing £9m to install a biomass-fuelled Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system that turns its MDF dust into clean energy in Dungannon, Capper Trading is investing £6m to develop a renewable energy hub in Tanamore to generate its own renewable electricity. These projects also have a positive and important impact on energy usage and contribute to achieving Net-Zero.

“In Maghera, we also supported local business Craftec to create 10 new jobs. Our Western Regional office offered advice and guidance on how to grow the business and increase productivity which has led to an impressive £1.3m of sales secured in its first year of trading.

“We are working with more companies in the area than before, thanks to our programmes Ambition to Grow and Business Innovation Grant,” added Ethna. “These programmes are helping us reach small businesses that previously would not have been able to access Invest NI support. We have helped 64 entrepreneurs and SMEs in the Mid Ulster area innovate, create good jobs and increase external sales through these programmes to date.

“Our strong relationship with Mid Ulster District Council also ensures businesses engaging with council programmes that have export potential get referred to Invest NI. In conjunction with the Council, we held Ambition to Grow drop-in clinics in Cookstown and Magherafelt to connect ambitious, innovative businesses with the right support.”

The Mid Ulster District Council Briefing has now been updated and includes data on Invest NI support over the past five years (2021-22 to 2025-26).
