Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Jonathan Bell has announced that Portglenone based software company, PlotBox, has won over 10 contracts in the US.
The US export deal was announced as the Minister was departing Northern Ireland to lead the Invest NI Tech Mission to San Francisco before travelling to New York, where he will meet potential investors and highlight Northern Ireland’s unique offering of a reduced Corporation tax rate of 12.5% from April 2018.
Jonathan Bell said: “PlotBox is a great example of an innovative company that has grown rapidly in the last few years through hardwork and dedication. As a former participant of a previous Invest NI Tech Mission to the US, this announcement of its new contracts will give much encouragement to this year’s participants.
“The largest contract, recently made with the Archdiocese of San Francisco, is to provide an online Cemetery Management System to record future burials and is potentially worth almost half a million dollars in future business.
“Having recently established an office in the US, I am impressed with the strides PlotBox is making. This deal will allow the company to further strengthen its position within this sector in the US market."
The Invest NI Tech Mission, from 25-29 January 2016, has been organised in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Science Park. Fifteen Northern Ireland companies are participating.
Leona McAllister, Co-founder of PlotBox said: “Plotbox brings cemeteries into the 21st century, with a very easy to use online platform. Through doing research and participating on an Invest NI trade mission to the US last year, we identified a gap in the US market for our services.
“Traditionally cemeteries use paper, old software systems and spreadsheets to manage their land. Information is deeply fragmented and difficult to manage. Our software, developed through an Invest NI Grant for R&D, takes the information and pulls it into one cloud based solution, to help improve efficiencies by 50-70%.
“The outlook for 2016 is very positive for us and we have plans to further develop our products and services and to launch a new genealogy website. Our expansion internationally has been made possible through the continued support we have received from Invest NI which has allowed us to fast forward our move into the US market place and played a vital role in helping us to secure these deals.”
Jonathan Bell added: “While I am in the US, I will also meet with potential and existing investors with a view to bringing more jobs to Northern Ireland. A reduced Corporation tax rate of 12.5% from April 2018 makes us the most attractive location in Western Europe for new FDI, based on a combination of tax, talent and value. It is important we ensure the international business audience knows why they should choose to locate here and I, along with my colleagues in Invest NI, will do everything we can to get that message across loud and clear.”
Invest NI has offered Plotbox £69,472 of support including a grant for R&D, an employment grant to create two new jobs and marketing assistance. Invest NI’s R&D support is part funded by ERDF under the EU Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme 2014-2020.
