Invest NI Helps Make Waste Work for Business

Oct 10, 2005

Leslie Morrison, Chief Executive of Invest Northern Ireland, today launched a new internet based directory, which will act as a one-stop-shop on waste management information for businesses and other interested bodies.

www.niwasteworks.com is freely accessible to all businesses, offering direct links to waste treatment and recycling facilities. The site provides information on licensed waste contractors, landfill sites, environmental technology providers and the most up-to-date recycled and recyclable products available on the market.

Through a series of detailed case studies and presentations on a range of waste management issues, the site allows users to learn from the experiences of others.

Users have the option to register online to be kept up to date on waste management issues and events.  Environmental technology suppliers will be able to register for inclusion in the site’s service provider’s database.

Contact details of experienced advisors are included on the site, allowing users to speak to them directly or discuss any problems via email.

Launching the site, Leslie Morrison said:

“The management of waste can be quite a daunting and expensive prospect for many companies, but this site will help them to navigate the entire process properly.

“It will also give businesses and other users from across Northern Ireland direct access to a wide range of waste management solutions that can improve their profitability and competitiveness,” he continued.

To ensure that www.niwasteworks.com contains the most relevant up-to-date information, Invest NI collaborated with the Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) throughout its development.

Welcoming the creation of the site Richard Rogers Chief Executive, Environment and Heritage Service commented:

“Every business in Northern Ireland has a need to manage its waste responsibly. The aim of this site is to show companies that waste can become a valuable resource if reused or recycled and if properly managed can also help to lower a business’s operating costs.”
